The program for developing smart villages and empowering the people of Evidence Village, Buleleng - North Bali by utilizing the potential of banana plants initiated by the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) since 2018 is known as the Banana Smart Village (BSV, https://bananasmartvillages-gisitb.opendata.arcgis.com). Currently, there are at least 7 types of banana cultivars, namely Muli, Susu, Raja bulu, Kepok, Cavendish, Kayu, and Klutuk, which have been successfully planted and have become the main agricultural product on land that continues to expand from around 2 Ha to around 27 Ha. Previously, Evidence Village was a barren village on the coast of North Bali, but now it has become a banana producing village and even received the best Proklim Village award at national level from the Ministry of the Environment in 2021.
Unlike the large fruit industry, currently the post-harvest process at BSV still uses conventional methods from harvesting to fruit distribution. This makes banana production less efficient because bananas have varying qualities and cannot meet market standards, including uneven ripening of the fruit, a washing process that requires large amounts of water due to the unavailability of washing tanks and distribution of fruit without good packaging so that the fruit often piles up. , quickly infected with microorganisms so it rots easily. Therefore, the proposed service program will focus on creating integrated post-harvest banana facilities and training on their use. Facilities that will be created include washing, ripening, storage facilities with TiO2 nano technology that has been developed by the ITB team and even banana packaging. The facilities being built will open up opportunities to improve the quality of harvested bananas which is needed to increase farmers' income. This community service activity will involve farmers to utilize the facilities built as well as training for the community and young generation in the form of the event Science Camp: Science is Fun with the theme of integrated post-harvest training to improve knowledge and grounding science and technology.
1. Create integrated post-harvest banana facilities
The activities that will be carried out are focused on improving the quality of bananas that have been harvested by creating integrated post-harvest facilities and training to increase knowledge related to post-harvest science and technology. So it is hoped that this program can increase the quality and selling value of post-harvest fruit in Evidence Village (Banana Smart Village)
