Activity Summary

Indonesia has more than 5,500 rivers that are very beneficial for its people as households and irrigation water and food sources. Many rivers are also used for transportation, hydroelectric power plants, and tourism. In addition to the benefits, if it is not well guarded, the river can cause disasters such as floods that carry property losses or even lives. In addition, population growth and non-regulated river use can worsen their conditions and threaten their sustainability. To maintain the sustainability of the river system and optimize the benefits and minimize losses, the Ministry of Public Works and Indonesian people's housing has launched a campaign and implementing the River (O & M) operating program (O & M). Summary of this study is (1) This study provides guidelines for inventory and assessment of river and estuary performance, and shows that the method can be easily applied in any river in Indonesia; (2) This study provides an inventory form and performance assessment that the format is simple and quite clear so that it can be used easily by the person in charge; (3) All inventory data and the results of the assessment are displayed using the GIS system that can be updated regularly; (4) Personnel who carry out an Inventory and Integrated Assessment are cooks, supervisors (observers), representatives of river regions (river region halls), and community representatives; and (5) community involvement in carrying out inventory and assessment is very important.
