Activity Summary

Tourism is one of the main sectors and is the basis of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) (Attachment II to Law Number 3 of 2022). The tourism concept promoted by IKN is inclusive ecotourism, namely tourism that continues to prioritize efforts to conserve natural and cultural resources and involves all parties, especially the community, in its development. The East Kalimantan Provincial Government and the Kutai Kartanegara Regency Government are encouraging the development of tourist villages as a priority tourism development strategy.

One of the tourist villages in the IKN area that is being initiated by the Kutai Kartanegara Regency Government to support the realization of ecotourism in IKN is Batuah Village in Loa Janan District. This village has the potential for unique and endemic biodiversity, namely the Mahakam elai and Kutai elai. Apart from the potential for high biodiversity, this village also has a lot of potential post-mining land that can be developed as a tourist attraction.

This activity aims to develop various potentials that exist in the community, both those that are currently starting to develop, namely the potential of Mahakam elai and Kutai elai fruit, ex-mining lakes, Agro Techno Park, as well as those that still need to be explored, such as traditional culture and community life, local craft and culinary products, as well as agricultural and plantation potential, as quality tourism products.

Facilitation activities in Batuah Tourism Village that have been achieved include: (a) strengthening Pokdarwis institutions in the form of building work systems, governance and regulations in tourist villages, (b) mapping potential attractions and superior tourism activities, ( c) preparation and testing of thematic tourism packages, (d) procurement of supporting facilities for tourist villages such as homestay equipment, direction signs, information boards, design of tourist areas in Lai Fruit plantations, as well as development plans for tourist villages.
