Activity Summary

Community Service Program is the process of empowering and improving the quality of public resources directed to be able to create employment and business independently through a business activity so that community income increases. The Mount Geulis (KOPPI GULULS) coffee farmer community located in the area including Jatinangor District and Cimanggung Subdistrict, Sumedang Regency Is a group of farmers who are engaged in agriculture (agroforestry) and conservation. Several years ago farmers were given assistance in the form of Arabica coffee seeds planted on the sidelines of forestry plants in the Geulis Mountain conservation area. So far, community members have carried out activities that are very closely related to land conservation in the mountain area by planting various kinds of plants such as forestry plants, fruit plants, including coffee plants. In the cultivation process and processing of coffee plants, the technology used is still Relative simple, even technology for handling and processing coffee still uses simple ways. Based on this, program has been done Empowerment of members of the coffee farmer community through increasing knowledge and skills in the process of handling and processing coffee to produce coffee whose quality can compete. The method of activities used in community service activities is the participatory method, with individual and group approaches.

The problem that has been still felt by community members can be identified as follows: Coffee cultivation techniques are still done in a simple and only way based on experience. The cultivation technique carried out is traditional and relying on natural conditions, harvesting coffee fruit is done manually but has not carried out the selection of cooked coffee (coffee cherry). It is necessary to be given knowledge of the properties of coffee fruit that is ready to be harvested and the quality of coffee beans produced.
